Anderson selected FOY, duo named Third-Team

MOUNT OLIVE — The University of Mount Olive women’s basketball team featured the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year and a pair of players on the All-Conference Third-Team, as the league announced its major awards and all-conference teams.

Freshman guard Laila Anderson was selected as the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year, while also being named to the All-Conference Carolinas Third-Team with junior forward Reagan Hune.

A native of Burlington, Anderson becomes the first UMO standout to receive the award since Tomeka Prichard earned the honor during the 2005-06 season. She paced the team in several offensive categories since entering the starting lineup in mid-January. Anderson ranked first on the team with 14.7 points and 2.6 steals per game in conference play, while converting 40.9 percent from the field. She tallied six 20-point performances this year and made a team-high 43 three-pointers in 29 games. Anderson was also named a two-time Freshman of the Month honoree throughout the regular season.

In her first year with the program, junior forward Hune received all-conference recognition for a stellar finish in conference action. She entered the starting lineup full-time in mid-January for the final 12 league games. Hune led the team with 6.1 rebounds while finishing third with 11.5 points per game and posted three double-doubles. During conference play, she converted a team-best .515 field goal percentage with four 20-point games over the last six contests of play, including a season-high 27 against North Greenville in the second round of the postseason.
