UMO rolls past Coker

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive’s men’s tennis team secured another win over Coker on Feb. 26 at John Neal Walker Tennis Center by a 6-1 margin.

With the win, UMO improved to 5-4 this season with one more match before league action begins in mid-March. Meanwhile, the Cobras fell to 1-4 this season with a pair of losses to Conference Carolinas opponents.

The Trojans secured the doubles point after winning the first and second sessions. At the first position, junior Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira and freshman Daniel Hammond won by a score of 6-1 before sophomore Elios Briand and freshman Bram Poel followed suit winning 7-5. Freshmen Oliver Winterhagen and Kabir Chhabria dropped a 7-5 decision in the third slot.

In singles play, the Trojans captured five out of six victories. At the first slot, Hammond outplayed his opponent 6-2, 6-1 before junior Adam Ibrahim was dealt a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 loss at second singles. Senior Israel Rodriguez Rojas rebounded with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) win in the third position, and Poel registered a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles. In the fifth position, Chhabria made short work of his opponent winning by a score of 6-1, 6-2 before Winterhagen completed the team victory with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at the sixth position.
