Three UMO wrestlers qualify for nationals

BRISTOL, Tenn. (Feb. 19) – The University of Mount Olive women’s wrestling team qualified three individuals for nationals and placed fifth in the team standings in its first appearance at the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Coalition Region II Championships on Feb. 18.

The freshman trio of Isabel Rodriguez, Skyelar Smith and Jada Arnold all qualified for the NCWWC National Championships after finishing in the top four of their respective weight classes. The group became the first-ever national qualifiers as the program officially debuted this season.

As a team, the Trojans placed fifth overall in the team standings with 75.5 points in a field of nine teams. King claimed the regional championship after winning all 10 weight classes and having all 15 entries finish among the top three. Emmanuel placed second overall with 113.5 points followed by Presbyterian (98.0) and Limestone (95.5).

The NCWWC National Championships will take place March 3-4 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
