UMO men’s tennis team loses at Campbell

BUIES CREEK – Despite claiming the doubles point, the Trojans fell by a 6-1 margin at Campbell on Feb. 14 in non-conference play.

With the loss, the University of Mount Olive men’s tennis team dropped to 3-3 overall after opening the spring campaign with five straight road matches. It marks the first meeting between the sides in recent program history.

The Trojans secured the point during the doubles session after winning the first and third positions. Junior Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira and freshman Daniel Hammond tallied a 6-4 win at first doubles. At the second slot, juniors Adam Ibrahim and Diego Ortega Cadahia dropped a 6-2 match, while sophomore Elios Briand and freshman Bram Poll battled to a 7-6 (9-7) victory in the third position.

The Camels completed the match victory by winning all six singles matches, including five in straight sets. de Oliveira suffered a 6-1, 6-2 loss at first singles before Hammond dropped a 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 decision in the second slot. Ibrahim fell by a 6-2, 6-1 count at the third position, while senior Israel Rodriguez Rojas was dealt a 6-4, 6-4 loss at fourth singles. Poel suffered a 6-1, 6-2 defeat in the fifth slot. In the sixth position, freshman Kabir Chhabria closed out singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Balazi.
