Hammond is Athlete of the Week

MOUNT OLIVE — After registering a 2-0 mark in regional play last week, University of Mount Olive men’s tennis freshman Daniel Hammond was selected as the Conference Carolinas Athlete of the Week on Feb. 15.

A freshman from Whangarei, New Zealand, Hammond went undefeated in the doubles and singles sessions as the Trojans secured a regional win over Lenoir-Rhyne, 4-3. In the first slot in doubles, Hammond and Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira posted a 6-3 win.

Mount Olive ultimately swept the doubles session to secure the point. Hammond followed up with a straight sets victory by a 6-1, 6-0 margin at No. 2 singles.

In dual matches, Hammond boasts a 4-2 record in singles play while producing a 3-2 mark in doubles play alongside de Oliveira at No. 1 doubles. He secured the honor for the first time in his career at Mount Olive.
