UMO Men’s Track and Field competes at Pre-National Meet

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – In a preview of the national championship venue, the University of Mount Olive men’s track and field program concluded the final day of the Pre-National Meet with a pair of podium finishes.

In the high jump, junior Kamden Johnson and sophomore Demonte Lavender finished tied for runner-up after clearing a height of six feet, seven inches.

Sophomore Jaleal Hamlett set a season-best mark in the triple jump after reaching 47 net, two inches to place seventh overall in the field. He continues to hold the top position in the Conference Carolinas and missed hitting an NCAA provisional mark by less than a half-inch.

In the weight throw, the Trojans featured three athletes in the top five of the standings. Sophomore Alex Smith-Fort’e placed third overall after tossing a distance of 56 feet, seven inches, while teammate Israel Long finished right behind after setting a mark of 52 feet, 9 1/2 inches. Senior Dorian Tolbert rounded out the top five with a distance of 51 feet, four inches.

Junior Jontavus Walker set the 10th-best all-time UMO mark in the 200 meters after crossing the line in 22.65 seconds.
