Trojans drop dual meet at King

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Facing the top-ranked team in the country, the University of Mount Olive women’s wrestling team fell by a score of 39-5 at King in a dual meet on Jan. 13.

With the loss, the Trojans dropped to 5-3 overall while facing their third nationally-ranked opponent of the season. Meanwhile, the Tornado improved to 5-0 this year after featuring a total of eight wrestlers in the individual national rankings.

The dual meet contained six head-to-head matches with King claiming a pair of forfeits at the 101 and 109 weight classes, while Mount Olive registered a win via forfeit at 155.

In the 116-weight class, Samara Chavez of King secured the opening win over Gracie Cordasco by fall before the Tornado created a 15-0 advantage behind a pair of pins at 123 and 130. King continued to build its lead with a technical fall in the 136-weight class and gained a victory by fall at 143 to lead 34-0. Freshman Isabella Kessey recorded the lone win for the Trojans by forfeit before Chey Bowman of King delivered a win via fall in the 170 weight class. Both teams double-forfeited at 191 to finish the meet.
