Lahey captures weekly conference honor

MOUNT OLIVE – After opening the season with a pair of matches in Tennessee last week, University of Mount Olive freshman setter Jackson Lahey was chosen as the Conference Carolinas Specialist of the Week by the league office on Jan. 16.

A native of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Lahey helped the Trojans to a 1-1 record in their season-opening week after averaging 10.71 assists per set. The 6-foot-2 freshman setter produced 49 assists, one solo block and a kill in a 3-1 win at Tusculum on Thursday night. The following day, Lahey tallied 26 assists, two digs and a solo block against Lincoln Memorial.

Lahey earned a starting role with the Trojans after the program graduated six senior student-athletes last spring. He joins UMO after a successful high school career where he totaled 1,000 career assists and was a multiple-time all-county recipient.
