Hill is conference Player of the Week

MOUNT OLIVE – After a career-high performance in a double overtime win, University of Mount Olive freshman guard Maleiya Hill was named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week on Jan. 3.

Hill, a 5-4 guard, delivered a career-high 21 points on Dec. 31, as the Trojans secured a massive regional win by a 95-91 margin over USC-Aiken. She converted eight of 12 shooting (66.7 percent) and made four of six from the line. Hill knocked down two free throws with six seconds left in regulation to force overtime against the Pacers. She also filled up the stat sheet with six assists, five steals and three rebounds while only having two turnovers in 45 minutes of play.

The Hillside product has played in all 13 games with 12 starts this season while ranking among the top five in the conference in assists, steals and assist/turnover ratio. Over the last five contests, Hill averaged 11 points with three games in double figures, including her first 20-point performance against USC-Aiken.

Hill receives the weekly accolade for the first time in her career and becomes the first UMO player to earn the weekly conference honor since Ivanda Hudjakova.
