MOUNT OLIVE — The University of Mount Olive men’s wrestling team tied for third in the initial Super Region II regular season rankings.

Lander maintained the top spot with 105 points in the rankings after having six wrestlers positioned No. 1 in their respective weight classes. The Bearcats were also selected as the preseason favorite in early October. UNC Pembroke was tabbed second in the poll with 78 points and had one individual ranked No. 1 in their weight class. Belmont Abbey and Mount Olive tied for third in the rankings with 62 points, while King rounded out the top five in the opening poll of the year.

Among the 10 teams featured, seven teams had at least six wrestlers ranked, while Mount Olive and three other programs placed eight individuals in the rankings. Lander was the only school to have a wrestler featured in all ten weight classes.

Trojan sophomore Jake Nicolosi is the top-ranked wrestler in Super Region II in the 157 weight class. A native of Haverhill, Mass., he finished runner-up in the regional championships and earned a selection to the NCAA National Championships last year.
