Eziakonwa, Prots earn first-team all-conference honors

GREENVILLE, S.C.  – University of Mount Olive senior middle blocker Amara Eziakonwa and sophomore libero Morgan Prots were each selected to the Conference Carolinas First Team.

It marks the first time since 2009 that UMO has featured a pair of first team all-conference recipients. The Trojans are having one of the best seasons in program history after eclipsing 20 wins and claiming a share of the conference regular season title, both of which were achieved in 2005.

Eziakonwa was named to the all-conference team for the third time in her career, including back-to-back seasons earning first-team status. She paces the program in virtually every offensive statistical category with 408 points, 297 kills and 57 service aces while totaling 83 blocks. The Tampa native ranks second in the Southeast Region in service aces and fourth in hitting percentage. The 6-foot senior tallied double-digit kills in 18 matches and registered a season-high 17 kills at Barton to close the regular season. Eziakonwa also received Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Week honors twice this year.

Prots garnered all-conference honors for the first time in her career after a stellar campaign leading the UMO defense at libero. She recorded 495 digs, 77 assists and 36 service aces in 99 sets played, including 12 matches with at least 20 digs. A native of Whispering Pines, Prots eclipsed 1,000 career digs this season and currently sits eighth all-time in school history with 1,203 digs. She adds all-conference honors to her career accomplishments after being named to the all-tournament team in spring 2021.
