WCC to host Veterans Celebration Nov. 10

Col. Tammy McElhaney, the commander of the 4th Mission Support Group on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, will speak at Wayne Community College’s Veterans Celebration.

GOLDSBORO — Wayne Community College invites the public to join it in honoring local veterans.

The college will hold its annual Veterans Day Celebration at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 in the Moffatt Auditorium in the Wayne Learning Center (main building with flag poles).

“All who wish to honor the service of our veterans are invited to the ceremony,” said Katrina Lee, the college’s director of financial aid and veteran affairs. “We particularly hope that our community’s veterans will join us. We would like to have the opportunity to thank them for what they have done for our country.”

Col. Tammy McElhaney, the commander of the 4th Mission Support Group on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, will be the featured speaker. She will speak on “Honor: The Value and Tradition of Answering the Call to Duty.”

McElhaney is responsible for the leadership of six squadrons including specialties such as the wing’s civil engineers, communications and computer systems support, security and law enforcement, logistics readiness deployment and distribution, material management, vehicle management, fuels management operations, contracting and procurement, personnel support, education, food services and the housing, fitness and recreational activities. Through these efforts, she supports more than 13,000 people.

Prior to assuming her current position, McElhaney served as the chief of staff at the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency. She has held staff positions at the Defense Logistics Agency, Air Staff, U.S. Central Command, and two deployed locations. She also commanded a deployed Logistics Readiness Squadron, a Joint Base Logistics Readiness Squadron and was the deputy commander of an Installation Support Group.
