Bos, Barrett sweep weekly league accolades

ROCK HILL, S.C.  – The University of Mount Olive field hockey program claimed a pair of weekly honors from the South Atlantic Conference Tuesday morning, as freshman Nikki Bos was selected the Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore goalkeeper Alanna Barrett earned the Defensive Player of the Week.

The Trojans swept the weekly laurels for the second time this season after posting a 2-0 mark at home in league play behind a 4-1 victory over Newberry and an 11-0 win over Lincoln Memorial.

A freshman from Leusden, Netherlands, Bos finished with 10 points this week behind three goals and four assists in a pair of conference wins. She delivered two assists in the first quarter Tuesday afternoon as Mount Olive defeated Newberry. On Thursday, the Trojans set multiple school records behind a historic performance from Bos. She finished with a team record eight points in the match with three goals and two assists in a win over Lincoln Memorial. It was the first-ever hat trick in program history.

Bos is having the best statistical season in program history with 21 points on eight goals and five assists as a freshman. She secured the conference honor for the first time in her career.

Barrett, a sophomore from Culpeper, Va., registered a pair of victories at goalkeeper. She captures the weekly conference accolade for the a consecutive week after being the first UMO player to earn NFHCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week honors last week.
