Mount Olive places eighth at Irish Creek Invitational

KANNAPOLIS –  The Trojans finished eighth in the team standings on Tuesday while competing at the Irish Creek Invitational hosted by Wingate.

The University of Mount Olive men’s golf program posted a 29-over 881 (300-285-296) while playing at The Club at Irish Creek. Lincoln Memorial earned the invitational title by two strokes with a four-under 848 (293-279-276) after featuring four top-15 golfers on the individual leaderboard. Lander finished second in the team standings with a two-under 850 (283-288-279) and Coker placed third with a two-over 854 (286-279-289).

Freshman Rasmus Ronnberg led the Trojans and finished 22nd overall with a four-over 217 (75-69-73). He tied for seventh in the field with 11 birdies and one eagle over 54 holes. Ronnberg played the final two rounds at a combined even par after recording an eagle on the par-five 14th in the third round.

Fellow freshman Max Lindblad carded a six-over 219 (74-72-73) to tie for 27th place. He finished the tournament with 38 pars and tallied six birdies. Freshman Jonas Arnstrom Bakker tied for 45th overall after shooting an 11-over 224 (79-69-76) behind 35 pars at the event and five birdies, including three during the second round.

Freshman Matthew Richardson fired a 14-over 227 (72-78-77) and tied for 57th place. He shot 37 pars at the event. Junior David Hoermann rounded out the team scorers at the invitational with a 17-over 230 (81-75-74) and tied for 64th overall behind 34 pars.

Lander junior Linus Jonsson shot a four-under 67 in the final round and claimed the medalist honors by two strokes with an eight-under 205 (69-69-67).
