Barrett captures weekly conference accolade

ROCK HILL, S.C.  – After two conference field hockey wins last week, University of Mount Olive sophomore goalkeeper Alanna Barrett earned South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Barrett led the UMO defense to a pair of league wins as the goalie. She tallied three saves on 11 shots attempted, including seven in the second half, in a 4-2 win over Lander. Barrett collected four saves on seven shots faced and dealt with 11 penalty corners in a 2-1 victory on the road at Belmont Abbey. It marked the program’s first-ever victory over the Crusaders on the road and second win against Belmont Abbey this season. The Trojans have now won four straight matches and remain undefeated in conference play. A native of Culpeper, Va., she has started all seven matches as goalkeeper this season and totaled 26 saves, including three contests with a season-high five saves. Barrett secured the conference laurel for the first time in her career.
