UMO Releases Homecoming Schedule for Renew in ’22

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive will celebrate Homecoming weekend Renew in ’22 Nov. 11-13. This year’s activities and events are sure to impress and entertain students, faculty, alumni, and members of the Mount Olive community.

Festivities will begin Friday, Nov. 11, at Southern Wayne Country Club with the UMO Alumni Golf Tournament. Lunch provided by Highway 55 is set for 11 a.m. with tee times set for noon. The cost to play is $75 per person or $300 per team.

Friday at 7 p.m. in Kornegay Arena, the Trojans will take on Augusta University in the first game of the Pickle Classic basketball games. Advance tickets go on sale starting Oct. 15 and ending Nov. 7. Advanced tickets cost $18 for the weekend. Saturday’s activities will get underway at 8 a.m. with the annual Trojan Trot 5K walk/run set to start in front of Kornegay Arena. Breakfast with Troy the Trojan will follow in the Hennessee Room from 9:30-10:45 a.m. This year’s Christmas-themed breakfast will provide the perfect opportunity for capturing Christmas card photos.

The UMO Annual Alumni Association Meeting will take place from 10 to 10:30 a.m. in the Video Conference Room 114/115, located in the Communications Building.

Several alumni will receive recognition during the annual Alumni Awards ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m. in Rodgers Chapel, followed by lunch in the cafeteria from noon until 1 p.m.  This year’s recipients are Brian DuBose ’11, John Ryan ’15, Earl Bielby ’67, Michael J. Bowen ’83, Earl W. Worley ’86, Dwayne Bevell ’97 and Hilda Boykin Watkins ’57.  

The 5th, 10th, 25th and 50th Class Reunions will be held in the Teresa Pelt Grubbs Gallery in Laughinghouse Hall at 1 p.m. with UMO President and First Lady Dr. H. Edward and Mrs. Phyllis Croom.

At 1 p.m., the Academic Resource Center and the Writing Center will celebrate their 10th anniversaries with a reception on the first floor of Moye Library. Former writing coaches, ARC tutors, Supplemental Instruction leaders and Learning Accountability Program mentors are invited to join the celebration.

Floating events will take place from 2-3 p.m. and include the Nursing Sim Lab Open House in the Communications Building, Original Free Will Baptist Open House in the OFWB Historical Collection Room, Religion Reunion in Rodgers Chapel and UMObile Laboratory at Moye Library.

The UMO Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. in the Hennessee Room.

A Music Reunion for UMO Choirs and Symphonic Band is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Hazel Waters Kornegay Assembly Hall, followed by a concert at 5 p.m.   

Saturday’s events will wrap up with the Pickle Classic Basketball Game against Columbus State University in Kornegay Arena at 7 p.m. UMO Choir alumni and current students will perform the national anthem.   

On Sunday, Nov. 13, alumni can enjoy breakfast with UMO President H. Edward Croom in the Hennessee Room from 9-10 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at the Alumni Crosswalk. The weekend’s events will end with a worship service in Rodgers Chapel at 10:30 AM.
